Check a Spain immigration application status online
Use the Spanish government service “Información sobre el estado de tramitación de los expedientes de extranjería”. The form normally asks for an NIE or application details, the submission date, year of birth and a verification code.
The portal offers Cl@ve access and a form-based option. The form can be used by following the details requested on the official site, even without a digital certificate. The filing receipt normally shows the submission date and application reference.
Check by SMS using an NIE or application reference
Applicants may also send an SMS to 651 714 610. To check with an NIE, use the format “NIE X00000111L”, including a space after NIE. The number begins with an uppercase X, Y or Z, contains eight digits —padding with zeros on the left if necessary— and ends in an uppercase letter.
To check with an application reference, use “EXPE 280020101234567”, including a space after EXPE. The reference must have exactly 15 characters or the system will return an error. SMS results are for information only.
Telephone and the responsible immigration office
The official portal lists 902 02 22 22 for application-status enquiries; call charges may apply. For non-technical questions or a file that remains unavailable, call 060 or contact the relevant Oficina de Extranjería with the NIE, application reference and filing date.
Common status messages: En trámite, Favorable and Denegado
“En trámite” generally means the file remains under review. “Favorable” or “Resuelto favorable” indicates a positive decision, but applicants should obtain or download the formal decision before taking any further step.
