Spanish immigration procedures use different EX application forms depending on the type of residence, work or family application. Here is a practical overview of the forms most commonly encountered in Spain.
Anyone dealing with Spanish immigration procedures will quickly come across forms such as EX-00, EX-01, EX-17 and EX-26. These are official application forms, but they are not interchangeable. The correct form depends on the applicant's current immigration status and the specific residence, work or documentation procedure being requested.
EX-00 is used for a number of long-stay procedures, including certain higher-education and training arrangements and eligible family members of students. EX-01 is associated with temporary non-lucrative residence, while EX-02 is used for standard family reunification. EX-03 covers certain employed-work residence procedures, EX-04 is used for residence for internships, and EX-07 applies to self-employed residence and work procedures.
EX-10 covers residence permits based on exceptional circumstances. Under the current system, it includes several forms of arraigo, such as second-chance, socio-employment, social, socio-training and family-based arraigo, together with other exceptional circumstances. EX-11 is used for Spanish long-term residence and EU long-term residence procedures, as well as certain related long-term residence cases.
EX-13 is the application for an authorisation to return to Spain and may be relevant when a foreign resident needs to travel while certain residence or card procedures are pending. EX-15 is commonly used for NIE applications and certificates, while EX-16 concerns registration documents and travel documents. EX-17 is the application for the physical Foreign Identity Card, or TIE, and is used in procedures such as first issuance, renewal, replacement or changes to personal details. Unlike ordinary online immigration applications, EX-17 must be submitted personally to the competent National Police unit.
Family applications require particular attention because different legal regimes use different forms. EX-19 applies to qualifying non-EU family members of EU citizens seeking an EU-family-member residence card. Where the person giving rise to the right of residence is a Spanish national, the current form for the temporary residence authorisation of their qualifying family members is EX-24.
EX-26 is increasingly relevant in procedures involving a modification of an existing residence or stay authorisation. This includes certain changes from student status to employed or self-employed residence and other permitted immigration categories. The application form itself is only one part of the process, so applicants should confirm the correct legal route, eligibility requirements and supporting documents before filing.
