For applicants waiting for a decision on their Spanish residence applications, understanding current processing timelines is essential. Madrid's Immigration Office published updated processing dates on July 1, 2026, showing the status of several major residence categories.
Under the new regularization framework, family-based arraigo applications are being processed from May 22, 2026, social arraigo from June 5, training arraigo from June 7, work-related arraigo from May 21, and second-opportunity arraigo from May 15.
Student residence permits continue to move at a relatively stable pace. Initial applications are currently being reviewed from May 31, 2026, while renewal applications have reached May 23, 2026.
For residence and work permits, initial employment-based applications are being processed from April 10, 2026, while self-employed or business-owner applications have advanced to June 7, 2026. Family reunification applications have reached May and June 2026 depending on the procedure type.
Long-term residence remains one of the categories with the longest waiting periods. Both Spanish long-term residence and EU long-term residence applications are currently being processed from March 2, 2026.
